Tunisia and Japan — an old friendship

Tunisia and Japan may sit 10,000 km apart, but the friendship is real and decades old. Japan's cooperation agency JICA has worked in Tunisia since the 1970s — on water, infrastructure, fisheries, and training programs that have sent hundreds of Tunisians to Japan. Japanese language study has deep roots here too: the Institut Bourguiba des Langues Vivantes in Tunis teaches Japanese and hosts the official JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) — meaning you can get certified without leaving the country. In August 2022, Tunis hosted TICAD8, the Tokyo International Conference on African Development — bringing Japanese leaders and companies to La Marsa's shores. Learning Japanese in Tunisia isn't exotic; it's joining a bridge that's already built.
